    General Admission Information

    Admission Criteria for Casa do Sol School:

    Casa do sol caters for learners who are intellectually disabled

    Learners between the ages of 6 and 18 years old may be admitted.

    Learners need to be toilet trained and independent regarding basic self-help skills

    Incomplete forms cannot be accepted. Attaching required forms are obligatory. We only accept .pdf forms submitted at this time. Please ask the school for assistance where needed.

    A confirmed diagnosis from a medical practitioner is required for learners who have autism/are on the Pervasive Developmental Delay spectrum (PDD).

    For learners who have Down Syndrome, we require a radiographers’ report indicating whether or not there is an Atlanto-axial vulnerability.

    Application Process:

    Complete the Application Form, and provide the supporting documentation as required

    Applications are then placed on a Waiting List, and a number is allocated.

    When a space becomes available parents/guardians are contacted and a date is set for an informal assessment of your child. The purpose of this assessment is to determine the specific needs of each learner.

    The relevant documentation is then sent to the GDE, for approval of the admission.

    Parents are notified once the GDE approval has been obtained.

    Contact is made via email or by post, to advise parents/guardians if a space is not available. Parents/guardians will be provided with the contact details of the District Office, should you wish to make an appeal and ask for assistance regarding a placement. The application is kept on the Waiting List until such time as the parent/guardian confirms that they do not require a placement.

    Please note: Admissions are done throughout the school year, whenever a space becomes available.

     

    Parents/Guardians are contacted in July/August regarding admissions for the following school year, the number of spaces available being determined by how many school leavers there are in a particular year.

    Parents/Guardians are responsible for keeping the school informed of any changes in their contact details.


    School Fees: Casa do Sol is a fee-paying school. Parents/guardians may apply for exemption in terms of the South African School’s Act 84 of 2009. Current school fees: R1124-00 per month for 12 months

    School Buses: Casa do Sol has 2 school buses, purchased by the Parent Body, that run on set bus routes. A space on a bus is given on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, subject to availability. The payment of bus fees is compulsory and payable monthly. Current Bus Fees: R1312-00 per month for 12 months

    Aftercare Fees: (compulsory, if use is made of the Aftercare facility) R 560-00 per month / R 80-00 per day

    Stationery fee: R250-00 per annum
    Outings fee: R60-00 per annum
    School hat: R50-00



    School Uniform and General Appearance:

    Learners wear the official school uniform:

    1. No earrings, jewellery, accessories, are allowed.

    2. No colouring of hair or exotic hairstyles are allowed.

     

    Valuables and Personal Belongings:

    Whilst every care is taken, the school cannot be held responsible for theft or damage to personal belongings on school premises (e.g. cell phones, bags, clothing).

    Learners should avoid bringing cell phones, large sums of money and valuables to school. Learners are discouraged from bringing computer games, iPods or similar electronic devices to school.

    CONSENT FOR ASSESSMENTS AND THERAPY

    Casa do Sol School caters for learners with intellectual disabilities. In order to address your child’s specific needs, assessments may be necessary to guide the implementation of intervention for your child. Such assessments may be conducted by the Speech and/or Occupational Therapist and/or any other professional, depending on the staff complement.

    The results of these assessments may be shared and discussed amongst the staff and the School Based Support Team Committee in order for them to gain a comprehensive understanding of your child and his/her individual needs. A parent feedback meeting will be scheduled when the need arises.

    I/We , parent(s)/ legal guardian(s) of for my/our child to be assessed by the Speech Therapist and/or Occupational Therapist, and any other school-based professional.

    The results may be discussed between my/our child’s educator, teaching assistant, therapists, school nurse and the School Based Support Team Committee.

    CONSENT TO APPEAR IN ELECTRONIC/PRINT MEDIA

    Photographs of your child may be taken at various events or during school activities. With your permission, your child’s photograph may be used in various electronic and print media. This may include: The Casa do Sol website and Facebook page, Instagram, the bi-monthly or term newsletters, school display boards, newspaper articles, school flyers and information brochures and/ or Power Point presentations, which may be used for in-service training etc.

    UNDERTAKING BY PARENTS / GUARDIAN

    1. I/We understand and confirm that the Principal or any person duly authorised, will act in loco parentis in any matter and at any time during which I/we have entrusted my/our child to the care of the school.

    5. I/We undertake to give three months’ notice in writing of our intention to remove my/our child from the school and furthermore, to return any books and/or equipment belonging to the school which our child may have.

    6. I/We agree that he/she will attend school regularly and will only be absent for medical reasons and/ or other emergencies. Where necessary a doctor certificate will be provided. Permission for absence from school for any other reason will be sourced from the Principal.

    7. I/We accept responsibility for my/our child’s transport to and from school. Where private transport services have been arranged, we acknowledge that it is our responsibility for ensuring that the vehicle is roadworthy.
